Tonga - Review of Tonga’s Rural Water Sector for Future Opportunities

World Bank Group | WASH Specialist (2024)

The Government of Tonga has requested technical assistance from the World Bank in formulating future collaborative opportunities to support and enhance the resilience and sustainability of its rural water sector in the face of climate change impacts and accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6). Eric reviewed the Tongan rural water sector, including an in-country mission. The review formulated recommendations and partnership strategies to pave the way for future investment by the World Bank in institutional strengthening and key rural water infrastructure priorities to accelerate progress towards SDG6. The project included in-country travel, engagement of stakeholders, face-to-face meetings, consultative workshops, analytical research on the water sector’s governance and regulation, assessment of the rural water sector’s issues, needs, and options, and site visits to villages and rural water supply infrastructures.
